VANDALIA — Cass County families will have a chance to get into the Easter spirit at an annual event this Saturday in Vandalia.

The Cass County Parks Department and The Friends of Cass County Parks will host its annual Spring Eggstravaganza from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Dr. T.K. Lawless Park, 15122 Monkey Run St., Vandalia.

One of the main attractions of the event, according to Patty Dohm, the leisure coordinator for the parks department, will be the Easter egg hunt for children ages 2 to 10. The hunt will feature thousands of soft, candy-filled eggs hidden throughout the fields at Lawless Park for children to find. A hunt for children ages 2 to 4 will be hosted at 11:30 a.m., while a hunt for children ages 5 to 10 will be hosted at 12:30 p.m.

“It’s a great time to have,” Dohm said. “It’s really fun to see the kids looking for the eggs. It’s really entertaining to see the kids running around.”

The event will also feature visits with birds of prey from the Lake Milton Raptor Center, visits with the Easter Bunny, face painting, crafts, inflatables, games, wagon rides, a bonfire, a zip line and more. The cost is $2 per person to attend.

Dohm said the event is a tradition for many Cass County families that is fun for local children. Each year, the event brings between 400 and 600 families to Lawless Park.

“It is something that we try to host every year before Easter, and it is something that a lot of families really look forward to,” Dohm said. “If people have come before, they will come again because it’s good, clean fun.”

A significant reason for the event’s popularity, according to Dohm, is its affordability.

“It’s a great opportunity for local families to get out and have a good time and it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, just $2 to get in,” she said. “It’s very family friendly, economically, and I think it is really important to give our kids a place to go that they can play for hours.”

Saying she believed the Spring Eggstravaganza to be an exciting activity, Dohm encouraged all Cass County families with young children to attend Saturday’s event.

“It’s just a lot of fun,” Dohm said. “If you want to take your family, a good time is had by all.”
