Ronald J. Beckman, 76, of Niles, passed away suddenly at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, on Thursday, April 4, 2019.
Ronald was born on Nov. 30, 1942, to the late John and Marguerite Beckman.
After graduating from Niles High School; Ronald enlisted into the U.S. Navy, where he was the head chef on the Destroyer, “Bigelow.”
After serving his tour of duty, he came home, met and married the love of his life, Carole Covert on Oct. 17, 1970, in Michigan City.
Ronald began his work career as a journeyman meat cutter. He later went on to become a salesman for an automotive paint color company and retired at the age of 74 from an independent mail delivery service. He looked forward to traveling up north for deer camp in the fall and fishing for walleye. Ronald loved being outdoors and took great pride in keeping a spotless yard. He also enjoyed taking the time to restore and repair older cars with his son. His most treasured moments were spent with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Beckman and his mother, Marguerite Eldridge.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Carole Beckman, of Niles; son, Scott (Shannon) Beckman, of Niles; nine grandchildren, Kodi, Austin, and Rae Leanne Beckman; Julia, Rachel, Jonathan, Elisabeth, Melody and Anna Balog. He is also survived by a brother, Terry Beckman of Goose Creek, South Carolina.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2019, at Brown Funeral Home in Niles.
A time of visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Garden.
