Lake Michigan College to celebrate International Education Week

BENTON TOWNSHIP — Lake Michigan College is celebrating International Education Week on its Benton Harbor Campus during the first week of April. The public is invited to enjoy presentations by international guests, sample eclectic cuisine and meet some of LMC’s international students and employees.
• 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 2 — Eating Together Around the World, Todd Center, Room 1304
Mexico City-based chef, Eliezer Campuzano will share observations and insights from his experiences eating around the world and will provide tips on making the most of mealtime with family.
Campuzano brings 25 years of culinary arts experience and food history knowledge from working around Malaysia, the U.S. and Mexico. Based in Mexico City, he offers consulting services for hospitality schools in Asia and runs a YouTube network Cooking Show, “From Foodie to Chef.”
He has been a guest speaker for the Culinary Institute of Michigan, Kendal College and the INTY international universities and college’s network.
• Noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 3 — International Pot Luck in the Main Building, Hawk’s Nest
The LMC community will gather to celebrate and learn about the students who have joined the Berrien County community from around the world. Guests are invited to enjoy dishes from a myriad of countries and cultures.
LMC professor Chef Amado and his Culinary Management Program students will offer guests an assortment of international cuisine to sample.
• 2 p.m. Thursday, April 4 — Vasundhra Sharma’s “Finding a Way to a Home” in the Todd Center, Room 1413
Vasundhra Sharma is a criminal attorney and global advocate for child protection and juvenile justice. She will join the community from New Delhi, India, to present “Finding a Way to a Home: Pathways Out of Institutional Care.”
Sharma founded the Centre for Excellence in Alternative Care and serves on the International Foster Care Organization board of directors. She also served on the Child Welfare Committee and helped to develop and implement foster care services in Asia.
In 2017, she delivered a TED Talk on why foster care is necessary for the future of India’s vulnerable children.
