BUCHANAN — The Buchanan softball team improved to 4-0 with a sweep of visiting Hartford in non-conference action Wednesday.

The Bucks defeated the Indians 6-5 in the opening game and then completed the sweep with a 6-1 win in the nightcap.

After four games, second-year coach Rachel Carlson likes what she sees from her team at the plate.

“I am very pleased with our plate appearances as a team,” she said. “We have made great contact, hit balls hard and have been able to adjust to different pitchers quickly. Our pitchers are sharpening up, threw the ball well last night, and have we been making plays defensively behind them. We have lots to work on, but I love the positivity coming out of our dugout right now.”

Buchanan had 12 hits in the opening game, including a double by Sophie Lozmack, who was 2-for-4.

Emma Lozmack, Chloe Spitz and Kaitlyn Lukkarila all had two hits for the Bucks.

Spitz scattered eight hits in earning the victory.

In the nightcap, Buchanan had 10 hits, including three by Abby Hickok. Hickok tripled and drove in a run.

Megan Adkerson was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Alea Fisher tripled and Sophie Lozmack doubled.
