NILES — Angel Gary scored five goals and added an assist as visiting Cassopolis blanked Brandywine 7-0 in non-conference girls soccer Friday.

Gary scored all five of her goals in the first half as the Rangers took a 5-0 lead on the Bobcats, who struggled to get the ball out of their own end of the field.

In the second half, Gary assisted on the first of two goals by Aysia Conley.

“It was a really great season opener,” said junior captain Katelyn Waldschmidt. “With a younger team, we weren’t sure how it was going to play out, but we passed well, communicated and got a lot of good passes through their defense for our forwards to score. Being so early in the season, we aren’t as in as good of shape as we would like. We ran out of steam second half, but that will get better as the season progresses.”

The Rangers are back in action Tuesday as they host Buchanan in another non-conference match scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
