DOWAGIAC — Senior Kellyn Daly and junior Allie Conner have both been selected to the All-Wolverine Conference girls basketball team, which was announced recently.

Daley was a second-team selection, while Conner earned honorable mention status.

Wolverine Conference champion Edwardsburg dominated the first team with three selections and five overall.

Senior Kaitlyn Zarycki, junior Abbey Krugh and junior Claire Bartz were all named to the first team.

Chloe Bartz was a second-team selection, while Kaitylynne Allen was an honorable mention pick.

“It was great to see our girls being rewarded for the amazing season we had,” said Edwardsburg coach Jon Poduda.

Joining the Eddies trio on the first team were Alison Bishop of Allegan, Lauren Nieboer and Mattison Raymon of Otsego, along with Alvia TerMeer of Plainwell and Hadley Miller of Three Rivers.

Pobuda was named Wolverine Conference Coach of the Year.

Daly averaged 11 points, six rebound and four steals per game for the Chieftains, who ended the year 8-13.

“Kellyn took a leadership role this year,” said Dowagiac coach Brent Nate. “She became the face of the girls basketball program. The work ethic in the weight room, the gym and AAU was second to none. She spearheaded a team to having the most victories since 2006. She was a consistent performer night in and night out. She played hard whistle to whistle.”

Conner averaged 10 points per game, four assists and three steals.

“Allie really emerged as a point guard and a scoring option for us,” Nate said. “She was our second leading scorer. She was able to take people off the dribble or pull up for a jump shot. She was also our most improved player and will be the future leader of our program.”

Zarycki, who became Edwardsburg’s all-time leading scorer for both boys and girls with more than 1,900 points, averaged 21.6 points per game to go along with 4.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists.

Krugh averaged 11.6 points per game as well as 5.3 rebounds.

Claire Bartz averaged 10.7 points per game, 4.03 rebounds and 2.5 assists for the Eddies, who won back-to-back district championships.
