Marny Wyant is a volunteer with the Cass County Council on Aging.
Where are you from?
I live in Dowagiac.
What was your career?
I taught for 30 years. I taught middle school reading and English, and for the last 13 years, I was the coordinator for Title I in Lawton. I’ve been retired for 16 years.
What do you do with the Cass COA?
I work in the cafeteria. I clean up, keep things tidy, serve soup and salads and different foods they need to have served.
How long have you volunteered with COA?
I volunteered for the COA a long time ago, about 18 years ago, with fitness center. (Recently) I had time I wanted to help people. I wanted to get more involved.
Why do you volunteer your time and resources?
I just want to do good.
Why do you think it’s important for people to volunteer their time and resources?
I think it’s good to volunteer. My husband and I always felt that way. You get back twice as much as you give, when you give. It’s another part of helping the community. It helps you as well as helping them.
Why is Cass COA an asset to the community?
I think they do a lot of good all the way around, and they help me. I can see how great they are in the kitchen. They are so clean, and I like that. I see a lot of good in community for the elderly.
