WATERVLIET — The Brandywine wrestling team’s season ended with a blowout loss against a heavily favored Schoolcraft team at the Division 4 team regional Wednesday.

The highlight came in the final match when Schoolcraft graciously forfeited the 103-pound match to lone Bobcat senior Searra Inman to secure her 100th career victory. Inman has been taking voids all season for the Bobcats after suffering injuries in an automobile accident in July 2018 that left her paralyzed from the waist down.

“We are forever grateful for all the teams that gave up six for her this season,” said an emotional Rex Pomranka of Inman. “The accident took a lot of things we take for granted every day. We as a coaching staff wanted this so much for her. It was because of her is why the coaches from the teams we faced took notice that this is something bigger then wrestling. This is one thing that accident didn’t take from her.”

As a team, Brandywine just didn’t match up well with Schoolcraft’s veterans as the Eagles jumped out to a 25-0 lead before Hunter Heath stopped the bleeding at 140 pounds. Schoolcraft would go on to win 54-24 to advance to the regional finals.

“The bright side is we get our entire team back next year,” Pomranka said. “We need to hit the weight room and gain some more experience in the offseason if we ever want to be more than district champions every year. We have the kids to build on. We just need to really be serious about putting the work in.”
Brandywine finishes 16-18 with only Inman graduation.
