Photo story: Veni’s Sweet Shop prepares Valentine’s Day treats

NILES —  For many, Valentine’s Day is a time to share their love with a special someone. However, for a select few, the holiday means business.

Already, local businesses are preparing for an upcoming Valentine’s Day rush. One of those businesses is downtown Niles’ Veni’s Sweet Shop. According to general manager Linda Skwarcan, Valentine’s Day and the days leading up to it are the store’s busiest of the year, with the exception of the Hunter Ice Festival. One of the sweet shop’s main Valentine’s Day products is chocolate covered strawberries. During the Valentine’s Day season, the store sells more than 100 pounds of the sweet berry treats.

Skwarcan recommends picking up orders of chocolate covered strawberries the day they are planned to be gifted, but for all other Valentine’s Day orders, she recommends starting early. There is often a line on the day of the holiday.
