Brandywine, Niles pick up victories

NILES — Brandywine and Niles both picked up girls basketball home victories in conference action Friday night.

The Bobcats improved to 11-1 with a 48-20 BCS Athletic Conference Red Division win over visiting Bridgman.

The Vikings improved to 7-3 with a 59-24 SMAC West Division rout of visiting Portage Northern.

Brandywine basketball

The Bobcats are now 5-1 in the Red Division with a showdown coming up against Comstock, the only team to beat Brandywine this season, set for Friday night at the Bobcat Den.

Brandywine outscored the Bees 12-4 after one quarter and led 29-10 at halftime.

Bridgman was held to 10 points in the second half as well as the Bobcats’ defense dominated the contest.

Zakiyyah Abdullah and Nicole Sachman both scored a game-high 17 points.

Kaitlin Essig led Bridgman with six points.

Niles basketball

The Vikings outscored the Huskies 17-1 in the opening quarter and never looked back.

Niles led 30-7 at halftime and 44-16 heading into the final quarter.

Aynslee Myer led the Vikings with 12 points, while Reese Davies, Amara Palmer and Alycia Patterson all finished with nine points.

Portage Northern did not have a player with more than five points.

Brandywine boys basketball

Host Brandywine limited Bridgman to three second-half points in a 67-17 win over the Bees Friday night.

Jordan Abrams led the Bobcats with a game-high 22 points. Derrick Miller chipped in with 10 points.
