MILTON TOWNSHIP — One man was killed Tuesday following a three-car crash in Milton Township.

Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reported that at approximately 5:54 p.m. Tuesday his office was called to investigate a personal injury crash that occurred on US-12 near Frantz Drive in Milton Township.

Initial investigation revealed that Ryon Koth, a 31-year-old Niles resident, was driving in the eastbound lane on US-12 when he lost control of his vehicle, causing it to cross into oncoming traffic. This caused two other vehicles traveling in the westbound lane to strike Koth’s vehicle.

The driver of the first westbound vehicle was Samantha Meyer, 35, of Niles. The driver of the second westbound vehicle was Victoria Mallard, 26, of South Bend. Koth and Mallard were transported by SMCAS to South Bend Memorial Hospital.

Koth had one passenger, Joseph Johnson, 52, of Niles. Johnson was pronounced deceased at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.

Assisting agencies include SMCAS EMS, Edwardsburg EMS, Niles Twp Fire and Pokagon Tribal Police.
