Cass County resident air lifted to hospital following car crash Friday morning

NILES — A 27-year-old was air lifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend Friday morning after sustaining injuries in a car crash in Niles Township, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

The accident occurred at approximately 4:40 a.m.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to the accident on east bound US-12 just east off of S. 11th St. in Niles Township.

Deputies arrived on scene and found a single vehicle accident that involved a pickup truck. The  driver of the vehicle was a male from Cass County. According to police, the driver was traveling east on US-12 when he lost control and went into the median for some distance and struck a tree.

In addition to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department, responding agencies included the Pokagon Tribal Police, Niles City Police Department, Niles Township Fire Department, Niles City Fire Department, SMCAS Ambulance and Med Flight.

The accident is still under investigation.
