Nick Powers, 87, of Buchanan, passed away on Monday morning, Dec. 31, 2018, at Dujarie House, South Bend, after a long illness.

A celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2018, at Buchanan Christian Church, 112 W. Third St., Buchanan with Pastor Nathan Babcock officiating. Military honors will be provided by Buchanan American Legion Post 51 and the U.S. Army. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service from 11 am to 1 p.m. also at the church.

Nick was born on March 8, 1931, in Buchanan, the son of Lewis Sr., and Mabel Powers.

On Nov. 26, 1955, he married Barbara Batterson in Angola, Indiana.

Nick was drafted into the Army shortly after high school. He served during the Korean War for two years and was stationed in Hawaii. After the war, Nick began farming along with his parents. They had a dairy farm and also farmed soybeans, wheat, corn and many other things along with his wife, Barb. Nick was a very successful farmer and grew the family farm from 63 acres to 700 acres. He was also a member of Buchanan Christian Church where he served as an Elder for many years.

Nick is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Ann Powers, of Buchanan; sister, Donna Marshke, of Berrien Springs; son, Nicky Powers, of Buchanan; daughters, Lynn Powers, of Buchanan and Carol (John) Udell of Niles; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
