Vikings win at Defiance again

DEFIANCE, Ohio — The Niles wrestling team used its depth to win the Defiance Border Wars on Saturday.

The Vikings did not have a single champion in the two-day tournament, but placed eight wrestlers to amass 168.5 points to easily outdistance runner-up Sandusky, Ohio, which finished with 129.5 points.

Dowagiac finished 12th overall with a limited squad. The Chieftains had 75 points.

Placing for Niles were Robert Buckland (third), Cole Simpson (fourth), Brian Soto (fourth), Jamison Zimmerman (fifth), Kade Wagley (fifth), Dawson Bruckner (fifth), Tysen Custard (sixth) and Javond Ball (seventh).

Placing for the Chieftains were Alex McIntosh (third), Lamberto Paredes (sixth), Dylan Elmore (seventh), Jordan Simpson (eighth), Tyler Huston (eighth).

Colon Team Tournament

COLON — The Brandywine Bobcats went 4-0 to win the Colon championship on Saturday.

The Bobcats defeated Bronson 42-24, Camden-Frontier 57-12, Colon 46-29 and Vandercook Lake 54-24.

Going undefeated on the day with at least three matches were Searra Inman (103), Mathew Co (125), Steven Kendall (135), Hunter Heath (140) and Zachary Anderson (145).
