Dowagiac falls to Lakeshore 44-34 at losing streak reaches four games

DOWAGIAC — The Dowagiac boys basketball team continues to struggle to score points and pick up victories.

The Chieftains dropped their fourth consecutive game as visiting Lakeshore posted a 44-34 non-conference victory Tuesday night.

Dowagiac led 7-6 after the first quarter, but trailed 18-13 at halftime as both teams had trouble finding the basket.

The Chieftains (1-4) shaved a point off the Lancers’ lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Trailing 33-26, Dowagiac was unable to overcome the halftime deficit as it was outscored 11-8.

Trae Brookins scored 11 points to lead the Chieftains, but was the lone Dowagiac player to reach double figures.

Dashawn Brooks added seven points before fouling out.

Micah Seats had a game-high 16 points for the Lancers, who also got 11 points from Ben Brower.

Dowagiac returns to Wolverine Conference South Division play tonight as it hosts Edwardsburg in a key clash.

Cassopolis basketball

CASSOPOLIS — The Cassopolis boys and girls basketball teams are off to a fast start.

The Rangers’ boys team is 5-0 after blowing out Eau Claire 90-45 in Southwest 10 Conference play Tuesday night.

Brayden Saxton poured in a game-high 29 points against the Beavers Tuesday night.

Cassopolis also got 19 points from Tyrese Hunt-Thompson and 13 points from Darrion Gatson.

The Rangers will wrap up the 2018 portion of their schedule on the road at Marcellus tonight.

The Southwest 10 Conference contest is scheduled to begin at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Girls basketball

Visiting Cassopolis defeat Eau Claire 51-13 to square its record at 2-2 overall.

Sophie Fiala scored game-high 16 points, while Angel Gary added 11 points and Jadin Wolfe eight for the Rangers, who travel to Marcellus tonight.

In the loss to the Cardinals, Gary finished with a game-high 19 points. Fiala added 10 points.

The Rangers will travel to Marcellus for a Southwest 10 Conference doubleheader tonight.

The girls game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
