NILES — The Niles Police Department hosted its Shop with a Cop program Sunday.

Niles Officer Angie Lick said she knew that many of the students chosen this year had siblings that were not school age and therefore did not qualify for the program. With that in mind, police provided presents and stockings for all of the children who were not old enough to participate in the Shop with a Cop program.

Police met with the children to give away the stockings at Brew HaHa. The local coffee shop also pitched in and provided coffee, hot chocolate and cookies for all of the officers, students, parents and family members that participated in the event.

Children in the Shop with a Cop program received $100 to spend on Christmas gifts, a stocking and a hardcover book.

Local businesses also supported the effort. Wonderland gave a $10 gift card, Martin’s gave a $20 gift card and Veni’s donated a couple chocolates.
