NILES – The Niles District Library seeks to build a community of lifelong learners who want to make Niles their lifelong home. A library card is not required to participate in any programs. All programs are free.

Wednesday, Dec. 12

Multiple times — Storytime day

Squealers (birth-18 months) at 9:30 a.m., squeakers (18 months-3 years) at 10 a.m., squigglers (18 months-5 years) at 10:30 a.m., story time (children ages 3+) at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

• 10 to 11:30 a.m. — Email Basics and Attaching Documents

This introductory class will provide information on how email works, common features, adding and using contacts, attaching documents to an email, and etiquette and safety when using email. This class assumes that the participant has created their own email and will not give detailed instruction for creating an account. Class size is limited. • 10:30 a.m. to noon — Triple P-

Parenting Class

This class is for anyone who wishes to learn a variety of parenting skills that will promote their child’s development and potential.

• 7 to 8 p.m. — Happy Destiny Group

The purpose of A.A. group meetings is for A.A. members to share their experience, strength, and hope with each other so that they may solve their common problem and to help others recover from alcoholism. Open meetings are available to anyone interest in the program or recovery.

Thursday, Dec. 13

• 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Social Work Meet and Greet

It’s National Cocoa Day. People are invited to join for this social work meet and greet to get to know our in-house social worker, Tiffany Russell, and social work interns, Jonathan Anthony and Tracy Rudi.

• 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. — The Connection

As Berrien County’s Housing Resource Center, The Connection provides a centralized intake that works together with the consumer to rapidly re-house those who are homeless.

• 10:30 and 1:30 p.m. — Storytime

Storytime features three books, a color song, and music and movement. The program will end with a hand stamp, coloring sheet and a craft.

• 1 to 4:30 p.m. — Mahjong

Volunteers are available weekly to teach people how to play Mahjong.

• 3 to 4 p.m. — Smithsonian Water/Ways Community Meeting

Early next year, Niles District Library and Niles History Center will be hosting the Smithsonian’s Water/Ways exhibit featuring ways water intersects with the world’s environment, history, economy, and culture. 

At the meeting, people will learn about the Michigan Water Heritage Project, a collaborative initiative between Michigan Office of the Great Lakes, Cranbrook Institute of Science, and Michigan State University with a goal to inspire stewardship for water resources and increase knowledge of our water system.

• 6 to 7:30  p.m. — Teen Time

Teens are invited to come and hang out. There will be games, books, and a great place to study here in the Teen Department. Snacks will be provided.

• 7 to 8 p.m. — Performance by the South Bend Symphony Wind Quintet

The community is invited to visit the rotunda as people listen to the sounds of the South Bend Symphony Wind Quintet performing holiday favorites.

Friday, Dec. 14

• 9:30 a.m. to noon — TOPS

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) is a nonprofit, noncommercial weight-loss support group and wellness education organization.

• 1 to 3 p.m. — Twisted Stitches

People are invited to bring their yarn or sewing project and enjoy a hot beverage while they chat and work. Rookies are welcome. David is here to provide help and instructions, and a few loaner tools are available.

• 2 to 4 p.m. — Homeschool Hangout

All ages and abilities are welcome to drop in to play games, make crafts.

• 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. — Tween Book Club

Tweens can join for a book discussion. This activity is for children ages 8-12.

Saturday, Dec. 15:

• 10 a.m. to noon — Chess Club

Love to play chess?  This group meets twice monthly to play. All ages and abilities welcome.

• 3 to 4 p.m. — Teen Cookie Dough Class

This class will teach teens how to impress their family with delicious cookie dough making skills. Ages 13-19.

• 4 to 5 p.m. — Tween Cookie Dough Class

This class will teach tweens how to impress their family with delicious cookie dough making skills. Ages 8-12.
