What’s happening at the Buchanan Area Senior Center?

BUCHANAN — This holiday season the Buchanan Area Senior Center will host a number of events, from learning how to make a variety of crafts from recycled Christmas cards to the viewing of special holiday collection pieces. Upcoming activities are listed below.  The senior center is located at 810 Rynearson St. in Buchanan.

Wednesday, Dec. 5

9 a.m. — Collection display of Christmas nativities, Santas and snowmen

Linda Luhrsen will bring part of her Christmas collection to the center for Coffee Chat on at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5. People are welcome to bring a favorite piece of their own Christmas collection as well. Those who attend the chat will be talking about Christmas traditions and how these collections play a part in those traditions.

Monday, Dec. 10

1 p.m. — Class on creating decorations from used Christmas cards

Thanks to used Christmas card donations from center patrons, a class is available to teach people how to make decorations and gifts from used Christmas cards. Recycle these cards and learn how to make lots of holiday items, including bookmarks, gift tags, ornaments, and more.

Wednesday, Dec. 12

• Noon — Christmas Party Potluck

A Christmas Party Potluck will take place Wednesday, Dec. 12. The Buchanan Area Senior Center will be providing a meat dish. Those interested in attending are asked to bring a dish to pass for 10 to 12 people. Santa will stop by to visit and there will be a game of bingo.

Thursday, Dec. 20

• 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20

Students from Russ Phillips’ tech class at Buchanan High School return this season to help seniors with technology questions. Seniors can get help with their tablet, laptop, cell phone, or other technology.

Friday, Dec. 28

• 1 to 3 p.m. — New Year’s Party

People are invited to celebrate the new year from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 28. There will be snacks and beverages, including a sparkling cider toast to the New Year. People may bring their own snacks, too.  Randy Chain will D.J. the afternoon with a variety of music for listening and dancing.

Monday, Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 25

The senior center will be closed for the Christmas holiday on Monday Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 25. The building will reopen on Wednesday, Dec. 26. The center will also be closed Tuesday, Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day. The building will reopen Wednesday, Jan. 2.
