Dorothy E. Smola, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018.

Honoring Dorothy’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no services at this time. Private services with the family will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southwest Michigan. Arrangements have been entrusted to Newell Chapel, Decatur. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at newellchapel.com.

Dorothy was born on April 7, 1931, to Frank and Frances Krizinski in Dowagiac.

On Sept. 10, 1955, she was united in marriage to Edmund Smola. Dorothy’s pride and joy were her family and she was a great lover of cats.

In her spare time, she also enjoyed playing her organ which she was gifted playing by ear. Dorothy was a member of Holy Family Church. She will be sadly missed, a caring and loving person to all who knew her.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Cindy and Ric Ashley, Eddie and Teresa Smola, Bob and Tracy Smola, Jim and Joanie Smola and Christine Smola; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Joan Blahuta and Sylvia Blake; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Frances Krizinzki; husband, Edmund Smola; brothers, Zigmont, Leo, Ted, Abe and Roman Krizinski; sisters, Katherine Hazel, Irene Schmitz and Alice Lee and grandson, Charlie Smola.
