More than 2,300 take part in YMCA run

NILES — More than 2,300 runners took to the street of Niles Thursday day morning for the 37th annual Niles-Buchanan Thanksgiving Day Run.

Ben Jacobs of Hopkins, Minnesota, returned to the winner’s circle as he posted a time of 35:09.23 on a cold and breezy morning.

Race Bettich of St. Joseph was the runner-up with a time of 35:49.05, while Jacob Corbett of Michigan City was third with a time of 35:49.33.

Laura Jacobs, of Minnetonka, Minnesota, picked up another victory as she ran a time of 41:25.79 to edge Niles’ Kaylee Thompson, who ran a time of 41:36.62.

Colleen Dabler of Osceola, Indiana, finished third with a time of 42:44.40.

In the 5K division, Chris White of Granger, Indiana, was the overall winner with a time of 17:06.68.

Berrien Springs’ Sean Valentine was the runner-up with a time of 17:18.74, while Nicholas Murray of Berkley, Michigan, finished third with a time of 17:19:77.

Emily Pedzinski of Niles, was the women’s overall 5K winner with a time of 18:55.36.

South Bend’s Aislinn Hunter was a distance runner-up with a time of 19:37.07, while Mary Ward of Elkhart, Indiana, finished third with a time of 20:26.15.

Age division winners, along with the top 10 finishers in both the 5K and 10K races will appear in Tuesday’s paper.
