NOVAK: I am truly thankful for this wonderful time of the year

This is a special time of the year and one I have always enjoyed.

Spending time with family and friends is something you cannot put a price on.

Enjoying good food and watching football on Thanksgiving Day is a tradition that many families hold dear to their hearts.

In Niles, there is an additional tradition that I have become a part of — the YMCA Thanksgiving Day Run.

Now I am not necessarily a fan of getting up in the dark and driving to Niles Thursday morning, but once I get here and settle in, I cannot wait for the races to start and to see familiar faces run or walk past me.

It has always amazed me how many people get up and participate in the race.

Thousands of men, women, children and dogs make the trek to Niles and help raise money for the YMCA and its programs.

Many dress up in turkey apparel and hit the streets before heading home for their Thanksgiving Day dinners and a couple of football games.

This is a great cause, and if you have not yet signed up for the race and are thinking about it, there is still time.

There is still time to register online or the day of the race. Race day registration begins at 6:30 a.m.

So get out and support your local YMCA.

Join your family and friends as they continue a Thanksgiving Day tradition.
