Richard “Dick” Henry Bussler, 87, of Coldwater, passed away Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, at his home while surrounded by his loving family.

A funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 19, 2018, at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Pastor Aaron Preston officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Union City with Military Honors presented by Coldwater American Legion Post #52. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018, at Dutcher Funeral Home.

Richard was born Nov. 30, 1930, to Henry and Christine (Swartz) Bussler in Dowagiac. Shortly after graduation from high school, Dick proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.

While in the service, he met the love of his life, Mary McCarthy in San Francisco. They were married on Dec. 29, 1954, in Dowagiac. After discharge from the service, they moved back to Michigan.

Dick was a hardworking man. He owned a Standard Gas Station before taking a position with a lumber mill as a lumber grader. He worked grading lumber for hockey sticks for Canada for 35 years. They moved to Coldwater in 1965. Dick and Mary also owned Poppy’s Treasure’s vending business in which they were at many county fairs, until health reasons forced retirement.

Richard was a man of faith and attended Northview Christian Church. He was a member of the Baldwin VFW, where they owned a cabin and enjoyed spending time in the summer. For many years they wintered in Leesburg, Florida. Dick had many interests, including fishing, bowling, bingo and playing cards. They were very active in attending and selling goods at flea markets. Dick will be remembered as a man who never met a stranger and was willing to help anyone in need.

Mr. Bussler is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Bussler, of Coldwater; his children Richard A. (Patty) Bussler, of Coldwater, Daniel Bussler, of Lapeer, Debra (Ronald) Grosshiem, of Coldwater, and son Donald Bussler, of Battle Creek; his brother Dale Bussler, of Buchanan; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons David Bruce Bussler and son Samuel Dale Bussler; and his brothers Donald and Dean Bussler.
