Body found in Milton Township

MILTON TOWNSHIP — A deceased female was found in Milton Township Wednesday, prompting investigation, according to the Michigan State Police.

The woman is believed to be a previously reported missing 54-year-oldfemale from the St. Joseph County, Indiana Sheriff’s Department.

Police recovered the body at approximately 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Police do not suspect foul play.

Modified hall hours for Dowagiac Union High School

With Dowagiac Union High School’s current renovation schedule, the high school has modified hall walking hours from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The modified hours will start immediately.  Walkers should park in the east lot between the auto shop and high school and enter through the north-east doors, according to Principal Kelly Millin.

Franklin Woods Mobile Home Clubhouse to host cancer benefit

NILES — Franklin Woods Mobile Home Clubhouse will host a spaghetti dinner to raise money to help one of their residents battling cancer and the family of a resident who recently lost her battle to cancer.

The dinner will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, 1950 S. 13th St. in Niles. The cost is $12 for adults at the door and $5 per child under 12 years old. Raffle tickets will be sold in advance and cost $10. There will be a silent auction and games for children.

Proceeds from the event will help Kevin Mears, who is battling colon cancer. Some of the proceeds will also help Roxann Wing’s family. Wing recently passed away after a battle with cancer and her family is faced with medical costs. A fundraiser page has been set up at facebook.com/donate/339431103480421. Niles Community Schools creates schedule for indoor walking

NILES — Niles Community Schools has set a schedule for citizens to use the schools for walking exercise during the winter months.

Indoor walking will start on Monday, Nov. 26, and conclude on Thursday, March 28, 2019, at the following buildings:

• 4 to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday at Ring Lardner Middle School

• 6 to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday at Ballard Elementary School

The buildings will not be open for walking during Thanksgiving, winter and spring breaks, parent/teacher conferences, and other days that there maybe school-wide events.
