LETTER: What’s going on with the courthouse?

attended the Thursday evening meeting of the Cass County Board of Commissioners and left questioning the motivation of this elected body.

The main topic of the meeting was the disposition of the historic court house in downtown Cassopolis. This building has been vacant for more than 10 years and for some reason(s) nothing is happening to turn this into an important space for community use.

An organized group of local voters has formed the “Friends of the Courthouse” in an effort to save the building and assist with future developments to benefit the city and the folks who live here in Cass County. Many local voters spoke up in favor of the plan to move this property to the local Economic Development Commission. The BOC turned a deaf ear to these impassioned requests.

Once again, the BOC chose not to move forward. No reasons given. One must conclude at this point there’s another hidden agenda that is not being revealed to us the voters   No matter how much support is expressed their mind s made up.
