DOWAGIAC — The financial audit, performed in August 2018 by Maner Costerisan for Dowagiac Union Schools, reported the district as having a clean audit.

Dowagiac schools received an “Unmodified Opinion,” which is the highest auditor opinion. Maner Costerisan reviewed the financial statements pertaining to all funds, general fund and non-major funds.  The firm also examined more than half of the district’s federal funding and found no issues, according to district officials. They also look at all expenditures for the 2015 bond to verify the money is spent according to the law and on what the voters approved. The bond money has been spent appropriately said Superintendent Paul Hartsig.

The Dowagiac Union School District also balanced the 2017-18 budget.  This was done through a collaborative effort, while at the same time supporting the needs of the students, Hartsig said. Dowagiac Union Schools continues its commitment to being financially responsible, he added.
