Clerks prepare for longer wait times during election day

Cass County Clerk and Register of Deeds Monica McMichael advised that local clerks are preparing for longer wait times on Election Day due to anticipated high voter turnout as well as a federal court ruling that removed the “straight ticket voting” option from the November General Election ballot.

The straight ticket option was available on previous November General Election ballots. It allowed voters to mark one office for the party of their choice that automatically cast a vote for each candidate in that party. Without the straight ticket option, voters must shade the oval for each candidate/office individually.

Before heading to the polls, officials are asking that residents consider the following:

• Visit michigan.gov/vote to find your polling location and view a sample ballot.

• Research candidates and proposals before going to the precinct.

• Vote at off peak times, between 9 a.m. and noon and between 1 and 4 p.m.

Visit electionreporting.com after the polls close at 8 p.m. for election results. The Clerk/Register’s Office will post results as they are available.
