Two arrested during traffic stop

LA GRANGE TOWNSHIP — Two people were arrested during a traffic stop Tuesday, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Richard J Behnke reported that at 9:33 a.m. Oct. 23 the Cass County Drug Enforcement Team was in the area of Wilbur Hill Road and Mathews Street in La Grange Township.

The Uniformed Division of the Cass County Drug Enforcement Team noticed a suspicious vehicle in the area with no plate. The deputy pulled the vehicle over to investigate the situation further, when the deputy discovered that a white female and a white male, both 41, had warrants for their arrest. They were taken into custody.

During the search of the vehicle, the Cass County Drug Enforcement Team found methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun.

The male subject was lodged for possession of methamphetamine, felony firearms, driving with suspended license and possession of marijuana. He also had warrants for breaking and entering and larceny.

The female subject was lodged on a misdemeanor warrant.

The names are being withheld at this time, and the traffic stop remains under investigation.

The Cass County Drug Enforcement Team was assisted by the Dowagiac Police Department and Pokagon Tribal Police.
