Barbara Barter, 88, of Cassopolis, died peacefully Monday, Oct. 8, 2018, in the comfort of her family’s presence.

She was the third child born, March 29, 1930, to Leonard and Bessie Steinman. She married Ward Barter on Nov. 2, 1951.

Barbara was a farm girl who enjoyed gardening and animals. She was a member of the Cassopolis Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Barbara will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by sons, Terry (Beth) Barter, of Cassopolis and Allen (Laurel) Barter, of Colorado; grandsons, Brad Barter and Tory Barter; granddaughters, Rachael Barter and Katelyn Harding; three great-grandchildren; brother, Darcey Steinman, of St. Joseph; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Daisy Miller and Marge Richardson; and one brother, Pete Long.

Family and friends will gather at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018, in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 23247 Hospital St., Cassopolis, Michigan 49031.

Ms. Barter will be laid to rest in Mission Hills Cemetery.

The family prefers contributions be made in Barbara’s memory to Cassopolis Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 23247 Hospital Street, Cassopolis, Michigan 49031.

The family would like to thank Dr. Atallah and the staff of The Hearth at Juday Creek, South Memory Care Unit for the loving care and support of Barbara for the past four years.
