Niles Salvation Army accepting applications for holiday assistance

NILES — The Niles Salvation Army will start accepting applications on Nov. 5 for holiday assistance.

The applications are open to Cass County, Niles, Berrien Springs, Buchanan and Galien residents.

The applications allow families in need to qualify for food and toys. Families without children can qualify for food.

Those interested in applying are asked to visit the Niles office at 424 N. 15th St. and bring a valid Michigan identification card of the person whose name in on the lease, rental agreement or mortgage, as well as either a social security card, medical card or birth certificate for every person in the house and proof of annual income.

Niles Salvation Army officials also advised people to bring pay stubs, government award letters, child support and bills, which they said are some examples of helpful items that can provide insight into a family’s situation.

The applications will be accepted during the following times:

• 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5 to Wednesday, Nov. 7 and Friday Nov. 9

• 9 a.m. to noon; 1 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8
