Dowagiac drops finale to Paw Paw

PAW PAW — A 19-yard fourth-quarter field goal lifted host Paw Paw to a 3-0 Wolverine Conference victory over Paw Paw Friday night.

Neither offense could get much going in the steady rain as the two schools combined for 272 yards of total offense.

Paw Paw finished with 163 yards, including 123 on the ground, while the Chieftains had just 109 yards of total offense, all but 12 of which came on the ground.

Quarterback Cailyn Murphy led Dowagiac with 49 yards rushing on three carries. He was 4-of-15 for 12 yards and an interception.

Dashawn Brooks added 33 yards on six carries.

Brooks and Terrence Price led the Chieftain defense with seven tackles each.

The Chieftains were looking to advance to the postseason for the fourth time in the last six years, but instead finished with a losing record for the first time since 2014.
