Alvin “Al” Daniel Miltenberger, 65, of Niles, passed away at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, on Friday, Oct. 12, 2018

Al was born on June 23, 1953, to Alvin J. and Betty A. (Baker) Miltenberger in South Bend, Indiana.

Al proudly served his county for several years in the U.S. Army. After completing his time in the Army, he wed the love of his life, Mary Roberts, at a ceremony in Niles on Oct. 1, 1983. Al was a longtime member of the Michiana Christian Embassy in Niles. He retired at an early age from AM General in Mishawaka. After retirement, he could often be found with a fishing pole in hand, always trying to catch “the big one.” Al loved his family and tried to take care of each one of them.

He is preceded in death by his father, Alvin J. Miltenberger wife Mary Beth on April 10, 2008; grandson, Josh James; and a sister, Diana Whitmer.

Al is survived by his mother, Betty A. Stevens, of South Bend; daughters, Jennifer Pflug, of Niles, Rebecca Miltenberger, of Elkhart, Crystal Miltenberger, of Portage, Indiana, five grandchildren: Brooklyn Pflug, Kaitlyn Pflug, Paxtyn Pflug, Michael Russ, and Ava Russ; sisters, Peggy (Chuck) Osborne and Kathy (John) Hanson of Mishawaka along with several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22, 2018, at the Mission Hills Memorial Chapel in Niles with Pastor Jeff Whittaker officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the United States Army and the Buchanan American Legion. He will be laid to rest with his wife Mary, at the Mission Hills Memorial Cemetery in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Memorial donations may be made in Al’s name to the Disabled American Veterans Association.
