Elizabeth K. Funk, 92, of Buchanan, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.

A celebration of life service will be held at noon on Friday, Oct. 19, 2018, at First United Methodist Church, 132 S. Oak St, Buchanan with Pastor Ellen Bierlein officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service, from 10 to noon also at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at a later date in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan. Arrangements have been entrusted to Swem Chapel. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at swemchapel.com.

Elizabeth was born on Nov. 3, 1925, to Vern and Esther Wert in Sturgis. She graduated from Coldwater High School in 1943.

On July 28, 1946, she married Arthur L. Funk in Coldwater, Michigan. They lived in Lafayette and LaGrange, Indiana. until moving to Buchanan in 1951 where she has since resided. Elizabeth was a co-owner with her husband in Art’s Rexall Drug. During her life in Buchanan, she served on several citizen school committees and was active in the First United Methodist Church where she was a member. Elizabeth, with the help of Coach Bill Karpinski and Goldie Rotzien instigated and participated in the first girls summer softball program, named Ponytial League. She was also active in the Jayshees where she was the first president. Her favorite pastimes were gardening, reading and watching sports, especially football.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Cindy (William Jack) Salem; son-in-law, Steve Racht; grandchildren, Kelly Carlin, Scott Carlin, Amy Mckean and Andrew Salem; great-grandchildren, Casiah, Katala and Kaliana Carlin, Nicholas, Jillian and Addison McKean, Jacob and Drew Salem; niece, Colleen (Bob) Geary and nephews, Jerry, Mike and Bruce Snyder. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vern and Esther Wert; husband, Arthur; daughter, Janet Racht in 2010; siblings, Vern H. Wert and Mary Snyder.
