Robert Joseph Hennion, of South Bend

Robert Joseph Hennion, 80, of South Bend died at 11:05 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, in his home surrounded by his family following a brief illness.

Bob was born May 6, 1938, in Niles to the late Geraldine (Horning) and Joseph B. Hennion and was a lifetime Michiana area resident. He was married to the former Carol Sprouse in 1961 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Niles, with the late Rev. Cletus Rose officiating.

They were blessed with two sons, Michael and Joseph. Bob was preceded in death by his son, Cpl. Joseph Hennion, USMC and his parents.

He is survived by Carol and Michael, both of South Bend.

Bob spent 31 years, mostly in sales, at Tyler Refrigeration, retired from American Standard, and later was put under the wing of Ingersoll Rand, along with the Trane Group. He planned the first new Martin’s Super Market, along with Martin and Jane Tarnow. For five years he trained new employees for the Tyler Sales Department.

After retirement, he worked for a local bank and also worked at the local Northern Indiana Children’s Hospital, helping the children.

He was a graduate of St. Mary’s grade school and Niles High School. After graduation from high school he attended Lake Forest College and the former Emmanuel Missionary College, now, Andrews University. Bob was in an experimental company in the U.S. Navy and received an Honorable Discharge. He was a good man and will be missed by all who knew him.

Bob had his own personal relationship with the good Lord and in accordance with his wishes there are no public service or visitation. Thanks to all those who prayed for Bob during his illness.
