Overdose Prevention Training to take place Oct. 16

BENTON HARBOR — The community is invited to attend a free Overdose Prevention Training from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the Berrien County Health Department’s Conference Center, 2149 E. Napier Ave. in Benton Harbor.

This event is open to the public and those who attend will receive a free Naloxone kit and learn how to use it.

This event is sponsored by Families Against Narcotics, the Berrien County Suicide Prevention Coalition, and Southwest Michigan Behavioral Health.

Berrien County Republican Women’s Club to host Government Day

BRIDGMAN — The Berrien County Republican Women’s Club will host a Government Day at noon Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Pebblewood Restaurant in Bridgman.

This year, the club will welcome Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey and two of his deputies who will speak on the topic of “Pathways into Law Enforcement.”  They will share their experiences taking part in the Explorer Program when they were high school students, as well as their preparation through two separate police academy training programs.

Representatives and their sponsors from all Berrien County high schools are invited as guests of the club. The cost for the buffet luncheon is $15, payable at the door.  An RSVP is requested and can be made by calling (269) 982-9939 by Oct. 12.

Police department to offer self-defense classes for women

NILES — The Niles Police Department will host a women’s self-defense class at 6 p.m. Oct. 17, 18, 25 and 26, at the Niles Fire Department, 1345 E. Main St.

The program is called Rape Aggression Defense, or RAD, and seeks to teach the basics of self-defense to women. The four classes cost $20. Those who complete it will earn a certificate. To learn more about the program or register, visit nilesmi.org
