I read the article re: Educators respond to proposed changes to social studies standards with amusement.

A social studies teacher states that he will continue to have what he calls “reasoned and balanced discussions,” then goes on to say that his class talks about climate change and watches an “Inconvenient Truth;” which is totally politically skewed.  He also states that he discusses how the KKK grew out of the Civil War — I hope that he teaches his class that it was the Democratic Party who started the KKK. 

I also couldn’t believe my eyes when I read that the Deputy Superintendent of Dowagiac Union Schools stated, “Since we do live in a democracy…”  Deputy Superintendent: we do not live in a Democracy, we live in a Republic! 

What a shame.  I’m glad my daughter doesn’t attend school in Dowagiac- the Deputy Superintendent doesn’t even know we are a Republic.
