Frank Unger Sr., 84, of Buchanan, passed away at his home on Monday, May 21, 2018.

He was born on Aug. 14, 1933, in South Bend to the late Fred and Mary Unger.

On July 1, 1956, Frank married Patsy Jean Pickens in Buchanan, and they remained married until her death in 1992. Although they relocated to Arizona for a several years, Frank and Pat lived most of their lives in Buchanan.

Frank enjoyed tending to his lawn and, in his earlier years, spent many a day fishing the lakes in Buchanan. He worked in the tool and die industry for most of his life. After retirement, he enjoyed working part time for Ace hardware and Stroud’s auction. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and considered the world tour he took while enlisted as one the most memorable experiences of his life.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patsy, and siblings Fred Unger, Jim Unger, Dave Unger, Mary Criffield, Arloa Sweet, Theresa Romanski, Emma Cleland, Yvonne Garvin, Delores Kujawa and Hilda Black.

Frank is survived by a son, Frank (Suzanne) Unger, Jr., of Arizona; three daughters, Joyce May, of Three Oaks, Janice, of Texas, and Shelley, of Baroda; grandchildren, Sean (Shannon) Overmyer, of Buchanan, Justin (Kathy) Unger, of Arizona, Cecilia Crow, of Florida, Joshua (Brianna) Unger, of Arizona, Stefanie (Aaron) Parker of Texas and Zachary Watts, of Buchanan; great-grandchildren Grace, Isabella, Parker, Madeline, of Buchanan, Amora, Nicholas, Haylie, Savanna of Texas and Carlie, Camryn, Lily, Kesler, River of Arizona; siblings Alfred (Susan) Unger, of Buchanan, Bobby (Shirley) Unger, of Dowagiac, William (Lisa) Unger, of Georgia and Lyle Unger, of Niles.

Family and friends will gather for a time of visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 31, at Hoven Funeral home in Buchanan with funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday, June 1. Interment will follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be made at hovenfunerals.com.
