Larry D. Greenwood, of Niles

Larry D. Greenwood, 78, of Niles, passed away at his home on, Saturday, May 12, 2018. Larry was born on Jan. 13, 1940, to the late Arthur and Verna (Hunsberger) Greenwood in Dowagiac.

After graduating from Dowagiac Union High School, Larry joined the Army National Guard.

On Sept. 29, 1962, he wed Judith A. Myers at a ceremony in Dowagiac, and to that union, four children were born.

Larry was employed for 19 years at Dowagiac Commercial Press. He left there when he was hired to be the production manager for Netedu Company in Benton Harbor.

He later acquired Old Tavern Inn which he owned and managed for 18 years, retiring in 2008.

Prior to his health declining, Larry enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting and golfing. He was one of the founding members of the Greater Greenwood Open, taking great pleasure in awarding the “ugly” leisure jacket and huge trophy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kelly Greenwood; son, Steven Greenwood; sister, Mary Criswell; brother, Gregg Greenwood, son in law, Patrick Hollis and close friend Kenny Belew. Larry is survived by his wife, Judy Greenwood of Niles; daughters, Sherry (Greg) Akey of Niles and Tina (Allen Ohler) Hollis of Niles; grandchildren, Alyssa (Scott Sarver) Greenwood, Erica (Ben) Wainwright, Haley Akey, Jessica Akey, Justin Akey, Tyler Hollis and Brayden Hollis; siblings, Lorna Suits, Diane Hatch, Andrea (Jim) Klett, James (Carolyn) Greenwood, Virgil (Joyce) Greenwood and Douglas Greenwood; several nieces, nephews and close friend Jim Myers.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018, with an hour of visitation prior to the service at Brown Funeral Home, 521 E. Main St, Niles.
