Starr C. Kachoris, of Niles

Starr C. Kachoris, 80, of Niles, passed away at her home, surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 13, 2018.

Born on June 28, 1937, in Mishawaka, to Lawrence and Margaret Culbertson.

Graduated from Cassopolis High in 1954. Served at McGuire Air Force Base, 1955 to 1958 as a Meteorologist. Continued her education at Bay State Academy, Airline School. There she met, fell in love and married Joseph Kachoris on March 1, 1959. Moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where she had 3 children.

She kept herself busy working with the school PTA and helped to establish a library for the elementary school in Saugus, Massachusetts.

The family moved to Michigan in 1971, to help in the family store.

In 1977, she earned her real estate license and worked for Century 21. Ready for a career change, she became a Loan Officer at Precedent Financial Corp. After 12 years of service she retired as Branch Manager.

Her passions were gardening, also enjoyed volunteering at Fernwood Botanical Garden, and traveling. She made lifelong friends where ever she went. Always the planner to bring people together, whether it be cards, dice, darts or scrabble.

Starr was always looking for the next adventure and living her life to the fullest.

Surviving family includes her husband of 59 years, Joseph; Son, Michael (Sara) Kachoris, Daughter, Linda (Bill) Klipple; Daughter-in-law, Tammy Kachoris; Brother, Larry Culbertson; grandchildren, Jeffrey Kachoris, Josh Cutler, Brittany Cihak, Jonathan (Rebecca) Medlin, Michael Coon; and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Margaret; Son, Joey Kachoris; and grandchild, Rudy Kachoris.

Cremation has taken place. Family will have a Celebration of Life for Starr at Fernwood Botanical Garden, 13988 Range Line Rd, Niles, MI 49120 Sunday, June 24, 2018 1 to 5 p.m. Keeping with family tradition (Pot luck Dinner) Meat and Beverages will be provided. Please bring a side dish.
