Bobcats claim sixth straight title

ST. JOSEPH — For the sixth straight season and the 11th time in the past 14 seasons, the Brandywine tennis team has captured the BCS Athletic Conference championship Thursday.

The Bobcats swept the doubles flights and had an individual singles champion to amass 42 points compared to 39 points by runner-up Lake Michigan Catholic-Bridgman.

Comstock finished third with 34 points, while Buchanan was fourth with 29 points.

Megan Schmidt was the lone Brandywine singles champion as she defeated Comstock’s Jetrelle Abella 6-2 an 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

Buchanan’s Maya Schuhknect defeated Lissa Weaver of Comstock at No. 1 singles.

Doubles champions for the Bobcats were Hanna Martin and Ava Moody, Lauren Srmek and Olivia Whitney, Carrigan Duffield and Alysa Marlin, along with Katie Stratton and Caitlyn Stanner.

The Bobcats will now take part in the MHSAA Division 4 regional at Leeper Park in South Bend on Thursday.

The SMAC and Wolverine conference tennis tournament were postponed on Saturday until Monday.
