George A. Marks, age 72, of Sebring, Florida, formerly of Niles, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Sunday evening, April 29, 2018.

George (Papa George) was born on May 27, 1945, in Middlesboro, Kentucky to the late William and Emogeen (Thompson) Marks.  He was also preceded in death by his sister, Jeanne Marks.

George is survived by his wife, Linda (Stover) Marks, Aug. 26, 1993, her children Suzanne and Jim Phillips (Rhoda); granddaughters Cayla and Sophia Phillips; his children, George Connell Grandsons Bryce and Trey Connell Myrtel Beach, South Carolina, Angela Blocher (John Santucci) Georgetown, South Carolina; grandaughter Bailee and grandson, Ethan Blocher, Lisa Shumake (Albert) Grandson Jesse and Dalton, and Chuck Marks, his brother Bill (Sharon) Marks, nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews, two brother in laws, Louie and Lee Stover, his partners in crime.

As a young man, George enlisted in the army, February, 1963 to serve his country.  He was in the service almost 20 years which included tours in Vietnam and Panama.  After the service, George lived in his two favorite states, Michigan and Florida, finally opting for Florida and warm weather.

He loved to play baseball, softball, golf, shuffleboard and pool. He really loved to join his Notre Dame Friends for Football and Cheer on who ever played against Notre Dame, being a true “GO BLUE” Michigan Fan. He loved bass fishing and was happiest when he was on a boat with a Miller Lite out on the lake.  His favorite fishing spot as a young boy and adult was at Cherry Pocket fish camp in Lake Wales, Florida. George was also an avid reader and a great pinochle and euchre player.

George was a proud member of the American Legion Post 71, VFW Post 2420 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2094 where he and friends enjoyed karaoke singing such favorites as “Mack the Knife,” “Hello Dolly,” and “New York New York…” George loved to dance and was great at it

At his request, George has been cremated and a celebration of his life will take place at a later date.
