Roundup: Bucks split, Bobcats swept in BCS meet

NILES — The Buchanan boys and girls track teams split a pair of BCS Athletic Conference dual meets, while host Brandywine was swept in action Monday.

The Bucks’ boys defeated the Bees 74-63, while Bridgman defeated girls 105-32.

The Bobcats lost to Parchment 105-32 in the boys meet and 103-30 in the girls meet.

Darius Griggs won the long jump for Buchanan with a leap of 19-4.5.

Brandywine’s Robert Croom won both the 100- and 200-meters with times of 11.59 and 23.76 respectively.

The Bobcats also had a multiple winner in the girls portion of the meet as Kaitlyn VanLaecke captured both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles with times of 18.34 and 59.23.

VanLaecke also won the long jump with a leap of 14-9.

Brandywine tennis

The Bobcats had no trouble defeating visiting Coloma in a non-conference match at Plym Park Monday.

Brandywine defeated the Comets 8-0 to improve to 7-0 on the season.

The Bobcats dropped just one game in sweeping the singles flights.

In doubles action, Brandywine lost just five games in the sweep.

Niles tennis

The Vikings were blanked by host Lakeshore 8-0 in SMAC West Division action Monday.

The match was much more competitive than the final score would indicate as the Vikings lost three flights in three-set thrillers, including at No. 4 doubles where Allie Robinson and Calee Blaske lost 6-7, 6-3 and 6-5.

Cassopolis baseball

EAU CLAIRE — Visiting Cassopolis swept a pair of non-conference baseball games from the Beavers Monday.

The Rangers won 14-2 and 17-0.

In the opening game, Dylan Green went 3-for-4, while five other Cassopolis players finished with two hits.

Xander Smith struck out 12 in picking up the victory.

In the nightcap, Smith went 3-for-4.

Green struck out all nine batters he faced.

Cassopolis softball

Cassopolis won 21-1 and 25-0.

Tia Bush, Olivia Purlee and Caitlyn Steensma all homered for the Rangers in the first game, Purlee also had a pair of doubles and struck out seven as the winning pitcher.

Maile Barber homered, Steensma tripled, while Lynnzee Armstrong and Purlee both doubled.
