Enough already with the snow

I cannot tell you how sick and tired I am of winter weather.

It is now the middle of April and I have only covered a handful spring sports events.

I spent pretty much all of Friday morning, and then again Monday morning, collecting the postponements and cancellations, so I could get the information out to our readers through Facebook and Twitter.

More cancellations may be on their way this week as the cold weather continued Tuesday before rain entered the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday.

I have not looked past this weekend because I am not sure I can handle it of more cold weather is in the forecast.

I feel bad for our area athletic directors, coaches, players and fans.

The athletic directors are shuffling events around as fast as they can, trying to find a hole in the schedule for later this week, month or season.

But I can tell you from experience, there are not a lot of holes left open for events to be moved to. The schedule is pretty tight, so at some point, they may be forced to start canceling non-conference games in order to complete conference schedules.

I feel bad for the coaches and players, because they are trying to establish a routine of practicing and playing games. It is tough to find your groove when you only play once or twice a week.

It is even tougher when you cannot get outside to practice the things that have been learned during the games.

I also feel bad for the fans, who want to get out there to cheer on their children, their favorite local sports team, or to just get out and enjoy a nice day.

I am pretty confident that at some point, perhaps as early as next week, the temperatures will start to rise. I am not as confident as to whether or not we will see a lot of sunshine.

But hopefully the weather will change and we will all get a chance to get out and see just how good our local spring sports teams will be in 2018.

Before you know it May will be here and it will be time to start thinking about the postseason.

I have a feeling some of our teams will be in the middle of it all when it comes to division and conference championships.

Until I get out and see each team, I cannot tell you with any certainty, if any of them will make a long tournament run in June.

For now, I will take some temperatures in the 50s and dry weather.

I just want to get out and start covering our teams and passing that information along to you through game and feature stories, photos and social media.
