NILES — Host Niles won its own quad at Orchard Hills Country Club Thursday.

The Vikings shot 181 to defeat Dowagiac, Buchanan and Cassopolis. Dowagiac shot 191 in the contest.

The Bucks finished with a team score of 200 and the Rangers 291.

The Vikings were led by Drew Rudlaff and Alex Krueger, both of whom finished with a 43.

The Vikings also got a 46 from Tommy Nate, a 49 from Conner Tibbitts and a 52 from Zach Applegate. Matthew McKeel finished with a 59.

“We need to keep improving,” said Niles coach Dan Brawley. “Thomas Nate and Connor Tibbitts both posted career lows yesterday. Although Alex Krueger and Drew Rudlaff are our one and two, they both shot 43, They need to go lower. I’m expecting them both to shoot in the mid to high 30s. They are both capable of scoring lower. Zac Applegate hits the ball a ton, but needs to work on his short game to start scoring better.”

Dowagiac was led by Nick Saltzman’s 41, which earned him medalist honors.

The Chieftains also got a 46 from Drew Davis, a 47 from Drew Phillips, a 57 from Lewis Hartsig and a 59 from Conner Carlisle. Jonathan Stockwell shot 61.

“Nick is playing really well to start the year,” said Dowagiac coach Bob Turner. “The two Drews are both averaging under 50 as well. Conner Carlisle played in his first varsity match tonight and shot 59. Everyone on the team was happy for him.”

Austin Lloyd shot 47 to lead Buchanan, while Trenton Gless shot 59 to lead the Rangers.

The SMAC West Jamboree that Niles was supposed to host on Monday has been moved to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
