Judith Jean Kocsis, 78, formerly of Niles, Michigan died unexpectedly, but of natural causes at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at her home in Indianapolis, Indiana while her daughter was visiting her.

She was born on April 4, 1939, in Eau Claire, Michigan, to Clifford E. and Ruth I. (Molitor) Briney. She was graduated from Eau Claire High School, and the former South Bend, Indiana campus of Davenport College (now University). She was employed as a Respiratory Therapist at a hospital in Batesville, Indiana while living in Batesville for eight years, and then at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. She moved to Indianapolis in 2016.

Judy was a member of the Community Evangelical Free Church, the Red Hat Society, and the TUM Society (ladies of the former Trinity United Methodist Church), all in Niles. She enjoyed photography, and the associated interests of scrapbooking and genealogy. She also enjoyed entertaining at home including playing cards with family and friends – usually Hand & Foot – and cooking. While everything from her kitchen was well received, the fondest memory is her German potato salad.

On Sept. 19, 1959, in Eau Claire, she married Arland Adkins who preceded her in death on Feb. 21, 1983. She was later married to Eric Peterson and Frank Kocsis, each of whom have also preceded in death, as have her parents, and a brother, Marshall K. Briney.

Surviving family includes her children, Nancy (Richard) Spahr of Indianapolis, Steven Adkins of Arcadia, Florida, and Molly (Choonhyun) Jeon of Bloomington, Indiana; grandchildren, Christopher Thielking, Kelsey Decker, Kyla Decker, Sophie Jeon, Solon Jeon, and Mark Philson; great-grandchildren Zacchaeus Thielking and Liliana Tepas; Judy’s brother, Leslie (Linda) Briney and sister, Janis Corredo, both of Niles; and several nieces and nephews.

Services for Judy Kocsis will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2018, at the Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home, 615 East Main St. in Niles with Pastor Matthew Hickok of the Community Evangelical Free Church officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday at the funeral home beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be private, at a later date, at the Caldwell Cemetery in Eau Claire.
