EDWARDSBURG — The Edwardsburg Leos hosted a challenge that put every first-hour class at Edwardsburg High School against each other.

The Leos made posters and hung them in the hallways for the Great Eyeglass Challenge. As part of the challenge, students were asked to bring in used eyeglasses, sunglasses, frames and lenses. The first hour class that collected the most eyeglasses were to win an ice cream party.

The winner was Mr. Kosinski’s class, which collected 40 pairs of eyeglasses. From the school, the Leos collected 181 pairs of eyeglasses.

Walmart also joined in and donated a large box of eyeglasses. In total, the Leos collected 483 pair of eyeglasses, but the club is not done yet. Now the Leos hope to get more than 500 pair and give them to the District 11B2 Lions Club, which has their Great Eyeglass Challenge Breakfast in April.

The used eyeglasses get cleaned and sorted by doctors and then shipped all over the world, where they are given to people in need.
