James V. Burda Sr., 88, of Landrum, South Carolina, passed away Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018 at the Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills.
He was born on July 28, 1929, to the late James and Josephine Hudecek Burda. On Jan. 4, 1958, he married Nancy Lee Guntle Burda. They were the former owners of Burda Berry Farm, Fisher Lake, Three Rivers, Michigan.
Jim attended Leland High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1959 and was a Korean War veteran. He was a member of American Legion Hice Shutes Post No. 170 for several years. He retired from GTE after 24 years of service. He also worked for Harris McBurney for 12 years in electrical construction and was the Financial Secretary for IBEW.
He loved hunting, fishing and gardening.
In addition to his loving wife, Nancy, he is survived by a son, James V. Burda, Jr.; a daughter, Debra A. (Mark) Hoeberling; a grandson, Henry James Hoeberling and his loving sister, Janet Send. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph F. Burda.
Memorial Services will be held 4 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2018, at Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills, Landrum.
