Lois Jane (TeRoller) Tallis, 99, formerly of Benton Harbor now of Dowagiac, passed away at her home on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018. Arrangements have been entrusted to Clark Chapel, 405 Center St., Dowagiac.

Lois was born Nov. 14, 1918, in Holland, to the late Henry and Maude (McClellan) TeRoller. She graduated from Holland High School in 1937 and Western Michigan University in 1942. Lois married Irving John Tallis on June 5, 1943. Lois retired after 27 years of teaching at Fair Plain East School with the Benton Harbor Area Schools; and also taught at Central School in South Haven, Michigan. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Dowagiac and a former active member of Peace Temple United Methodist Church in Benton Harbor and also a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Niles.

Lois is survived by her children – Thomas (Sandra) Tallis of Dowagiac (Sister Lakes), James (Susan-Deceased) Tallis of Kalispell, MT formerly of Benton Harbor, Timothy Tallis of Dowagiac formerly of Benton Harbor; five grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Irving John Tallis (Dec. 29, 2007), brother – Don TeRoller and sister – Marian Peck, and a daughter-in-law Susan Tallis.

A Celebration of Life service will be at noon Tuesday Feb. 20, at First United Methodist Church in Dowagiac with Pastor Jodi Cartwright officiating. Final resting place with private family committal will be at Lake View Cemetery in South Haven. Visitation will precede the service at the church from 11 a.m. to noon.
