Athlete Showcase: Niles’ Klingerman

Cassie Klingerman is a junior on the Niles girls basketball team.

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

CK: Being able to compete in so many things and adapt to them along with the people who make up the teams.

What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?

CK: Missing my goal for my time in running by a few seconds.

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

CK: A hero in my life is my mom, because even when things are rough she still finds a way to make them great and always gets through.

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

CK: At the very start of the race or game when I don’t know how things will turn out.

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

CK: When I am running down the court or on the course and I fall randomly.

How do you tend to workout/train when by yourself?

CK: I go on short runs, do little body workouts and go to the gym.

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

CK: I’d like to compete in tennis.

Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?

CK: They teach me to be the good person I am and allow me to become close and create strong relationships.

How would you give away $50,000?

CK: I would donate to children hospitals in need.

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

CK: I’d be the head coach of a high school cross country team.

If I did not play sports, I would…?

CK: Spend more time on education with friends and family, and  join clubs.

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

CK: Keeping a positive mindset even when things are going terribly for yourself.

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

CK: The amount of fouls one person can get per game.

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

CK: That you are strong in every way.

What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?

CK: I had to canoe with friends while I have a fear of water and boats, but I was glad I did it because it taught me to trust.

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

CK: I was watching a girls basketball game and the girl got a steal and was going towards her basket for a layup and she did a euro-step and made the defenders around her fall for the first step.

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

CK: My favorite hobby is reading books about adventures.
