Kenneth James Van Goey, 49 years old, of Edwardsburg, was tragically hit by a car and killed on Jan. 25, 2018, while on vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

He was born June 9, 1968, in South Bend, the son of John Henry Van Goey and Beverly B. (Overmyer) Van Goey. He has lived his whole life in the Elkhart/Edwardsburg area.

Ken was a very skilled journeyman brick-layer, and was a member of Bricklayers International Local 4, from 1990 until his death.

Ken was a lover of everyone and everything, especially nature and animals. He was always the life of the party, and would go above and beyond to help anyone who needed help, especially his mom.

Ken was married May 23, 1992, to Dawnette Gruetzmacher, and they divorced in 2000.

Surviving are his children, Connor John Van Goey of Los Angeles, and Kenzie Marie Van Goey of Muncie, Indiana, where she is a senior at Ball State. Other survivors are his mother, Beverly Torgeson of Edwardsburg; a sister, Johna A. Radford and her companion Anthony Jones of Edwardsbur; step brothers, Jeff Vetter of Osprey, Florida, and Phil Vetter of Green Cove Springs, Florida; nieces and nephews, Travis Shaw, Jamie Radford, Ian Radford, Christian Jones, Amy M. Jones and Aaron Jones. Ken leaves behind his beloved dogs, Henry and Little Man.

Preceding Ken in death were his father and stepmother, John and Barbara Van Goey; and cousin, Dustin Overmyer.

Family and friends may gather from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Hope United Methodist Church, 69941 Elkhart Road, Edwardsburg, for a time of visitation. The Service of Remembrance will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the church. Officiating will the Rev. Scott Otis, pastor of the church.

Following the service, cremation will take place. In keeping with Ken’s love for animals, Memorial Contributions may be given to the Cass County Animal Shelter, 323 M-62 North, Cassopolis, MI 49031.
