DOWAGIAC — The Edwardsburg wrestling team will head into the Wolverine Conference tournament it is hosting Saturday with a perfect dual meet record.

The Eddies wrapped up its dual meet season Jan. 24 by defeating Allegan 56-20 and Otsego 51-18 at Dowagiac.

Edwardsburg will be out to defend its conference championship on Saturday.

“Being undefeated in the regular season is a great accomplishment in this league, but what are the challenges you face when you get to the league tournament? I think the biggest challenge we face in the conference tournament is to not getting over confident and winning the close matches and turning around the results that didn’t go our way in the duals,” Edwardsburg coach Jesse Becraft said. “If we wrestle how we are capable and stay healthy we will be tough to beat. With that being said, no one is just going to roll over for us.”

Going undefeated for the Eddies against Allegan and Otsego were Caden Reece (125), Jackson Hoover (130), Nick Bradley (145/152), Dillon Hursh (160), Jacob Andrina (171) and Devin Pulling (215).

Winning their lone matches of the night were Jeremy Walker (135), Michael Tatay (135), Josh Harris (285) and Steven Harris (285).

Becraft is hoping his squad takes advantage of hosting the conference tournament on Saturday.

“I don’t know if being at home helps with those challenges, but it will be nice to have the kids get to sleep a little longer and to hopefully have a nice crowd of supporters,” he said.

Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Admission is $5 and concessions will be available.
